A light plane has crashed at the Shrine hills area of Marsabit Town.

The plane had been hired by the Marsabit County Government to transport officers to Illeret. The plane left Wilson and was scheduled to land in Marsabit to pick the County official.

The officials were to travel to Illeret within North Horr sub-county for a peace meeting and nutrition smart survey which was to be chaired by Governor Marsabit county.

Visibility has been very poor in the town over the last two days due to heavy mists covering the town’s Mountains.

As a result, the plane was advised to land at Logologo airstrip.

One of the plane’s wings reportedly hit a section of the Mountain at Kofia Mbaya/shrine area as it tried to change direction to Logologo.

According to Mr. Wolde Wesa, The Acting Marsabit County Secretary, they lost communication with the pilot captain Brian Migwi and his co-pilot, John Brian, at 1030hours.

The duo was flying aboard aircraft registration number 5y-JKN 208 make Cessna and had left Wilson airport at 0818hrs.

Both occupants died and the bodies have since been transferred to Marsabit County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
